A painting named Vulcan just like the ancient craftsmen of the Gods. Rooted in Greek mythology, the work is a landscape that recalls places like Vulcania. Abandoned, volcanic, and uninhabited for a time. Smoking cliffs, whereunder the vaulted and thunderous Aetnean caverns are hollowed out for Cyclopean forges.

João Rosa (b. 1996, Lisbon) is a visual artist living and working in Lisbon. He graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (2018). His recent group exhibitions and projects include “RANDOM” (AZAN, Lisbon), “Parce Qu'on Sème” (Le 47 Residence, France, 2022), “Depois do Banquete” (Teatro Thalia, Lisbon, 2022), “Corrente de Ar – Vol. I” (Príncipe Real, Lisbon, 2021), “I Will Take the Risk” (AZAN, 2020), and the D. Fernando XV Prize (MU.SA, 2020). Earlier shows include the Bienal da Fábrica (Fábrica Braço de Prata, 2019), “Mina” (MUHNAC, 2019), “Finalistas Pintura 2018” (SNBA, 2019), “Jet Lag” (Liminare Gallery, 2019), the Paula Rego Prize selection (Casa das Histórias, 2019), and others across Portugal.
