What does it mean to be seen? To be witnessed, without needing to be understood? This piece came slowly. Arcs drawn from my daughter’s hula hoop, lines built up with oil stick, like crayon on cloth. A veil. An eye. A sense of something held. Are we at a threshold? In transition? In solitude? There’s symmetry, but nothing fixed. The space feels paused—like breath caught just before a shift. Quiet. Reflective.

Kareena Zerefos is a Greek Australian artist based in Portugal. Her drawings explore refuge, resilience and the in-between, where intimacy meets expansiveness. Rooted in the language of dreamscapes, her work moves between memory, mythology and the unseen, with recurring motifs of light, thresholds and presence. Drawing is central to her practice, both as a medium and as a conceptual framework, chosen for its rawness, immediacy and accessibility. Zerefos holds a Master of Art from the University of New South Wales (Sydney) and has exhibited internationally.
